Media

The Media section of the console is where you will find all the videos in your library, including Connatix videos and/or videos/content you upload yourself via individual files, MRSS or RSS feeds. Please note, this is only shown to publishers who have requested access to this part of the console by reaching out to their account manager at Connatix. 

 

The Media Library is divided into four sections which will be discussed in order below:

1. Media Discovery

This is where you will be able to add your own bundled content via an MRSS or RSS feed. Please click here if you would like to see the requirements needed in order to create an MRSS or RSS feed that will be ingested properly into our console.

Adding an MRSS -

Click on the "Add" button in the upper right corner.

  • Name: The name you want to call your MRSS
  • Source: The link to the feed
  • Target: If you are uploading an MRSS feed the target should be video
  • Refresh Every: If you are uploading a dynamic MRSS you can choose in how many hours you want it to refresh
  • Select Category: Here you can select what type of category your videos fit in to. The default is always set to "All", especially if it's a mixed content feed
  • Max Items/Batch: Here you can set how many videos you want the console to pull from the MRSS feed in the x-amount of hours you have set the refresh rate to
  • Playlist assignment: Here you can assign the MRSS to a specific placement (existing or new)

Adding an RSS -

If you would like use our Highlights capability, you would need to upload an RSS. To do so, please set the Target setting to "Highlights".

  • Name: The name you want to call your RSS
  • Source: The link to the feed
  • Target: If you are uploading an RSS feed the target should be Highlights
  • Refresh Every: If you are uploading a dynamic RSS you can choose in how many hours you want it to refresh
  • Select Category: Here you can select what type of category your videos fit in to. The default is always set to "All", especially if it's a mixed content feed
  • Slides: Here you can set how many slides you want the console to pull from the RSS feed in the x-amount of hours you have set the refresh rate to
  • Accent Color: Here you can  control the accent color on the title area; The color of the progress bar; The color of the read more arrow; The color of the buttons, read more and headline text when hovered  

  • Font Color: Here you can choose the color you want the font to be on the title of each slide
  • Title Background Color: Here you can choose the color you want the background to be on the title of each slide
  • Playlist assignment: Here you can assign the RSS to a specific placement (existing or new)

2. Video Library 

You have the option of changing the view of the library by clicking one of the top grid buttons under the "Add" button:

To start uploading individual videos, click the "Add" button in the top right corner. This will prompt you to upload an individual video from your computer or a link to an MRSS feed.

Search

You can Search Content for a specific video, filter by state, source, category, and language:

  • Type: You can search for Videos or Highlights
  • State: You can filter by Active, Scheduled, or Expired videos
  • Source: You can filter My Videos, which contain the videos you upload to the console, or the Marketplace, which contain all of Connatix library videos
  • Category: You can filter by a specific category
  • Language: You can filter by a specific language

Creating Playlists from the Content Page

You can also create playlists with specific videos and assign only these videos to specific placements.

To do this, please select the videos of your choice and a "Add to Playlist" button will appear in the top right corner:

This will prompt you to either create a Playlist or add these videos to an existing one.

Embedding Specific Video on a specific page

The Connatix player can either:

  • Pull content randomly from you library
  • Play a pre-defined playlist
  • Set with any of the above behavior and force to start by playing a specific video for specific page.

To embed a specific video to a specific page on your site, hover over the specific video you're interested in and click on the Embed Code button:

From there, you'll be able to scroll and choose the placement that you'd like to use:

​Once you've decided on the placement, an embed code will be auto-generated, and you'll be able to copy and paste this onto your site.

3. Playlists

The Playlists page is where you will find all the playlists you have created

To Create a Playlist, you can click on the "Add" in the top right corner, this will lead you to an overlay where you can select the videos you want to include in your Playlist.

  • Name: The name you want to assign to your Playlist
  • Playlist Type: If this is going to be a playlist full of videos, used for Highlights taken from an RSS already uploaded into the platform, or used for a Stories placement
  • Order Type: Whether you want your videos to be pulled by the Latest, in Random order, or By Order 

4. Stories

A Story is a set of Story Items created in a semi manual, but very intuitive process which allows you to leverage the content uploaded through the feeds.

To add a new story you will need to access the Stories tab in the Media section of the console and click on the "Add" button in the top right corner.

When a new story is created, you will first need to set the general setting for this Story.

  • General Settings - includes all the general information about the tag:
    Name - the name of the Story. This name will be used to manage the story within the Connatix console.
    Play Order  - how the story items be presented, by order or randomly.

Creating a Story Item

To create a story Item you need to click the large “Add More” box :

Clicking this button will open a lightbox that will allow you to add a new story item in one of three ways:

  • Article - base your story item in an existing article (see above how to create feeds or below how to use a URL).
  • Video Library - use a video from your video library
  • Manual - create a story item from scratch



Article Flow

The article flow will open another lightbox with articles ingested from the feeds. You are able to search the feed or filter it by category. Notice that this lightbox is a paginated page and might have many article pages.

In order to pick an article you need to click on the blue box in the right corner of the card. You can pick either one or many articles to add at once. Each article will be added as a separate Story Item.

Once you picked the article(s) you want to add as an item(s) click the “Add to Story” button in the bottom right corner. A new Story Item should be added to your Story.


If you can’t find the article you are interested in, you can click on the “Use URL” button on the top right of the lightbox  
And enter the URL of the article page you want to use and click the upload button

Video Flow

The video flow will open a lightbox with your video library. You are able to search the library or filter it by source, category, language and state of the video. Notice that this lightbox is a paginate page and might have many video pages.

In order to pick a video you need to click on the blue box in the right corner of the card. You can pick either one or multiple videos to add at once. Each video will be added as a separate Story Item. 

Once you picked the video(s) you must add it as an item(s), to do so click the “Add to Story” button. A new Story Item should be added to your Story


Manual Flow

Once you click on the add button on the manual flow, a new empty side with the connatix logo will be added as a story item.




Customizing the Story items

The customization section of the page will allow you to customize the following elements of the story Item:

  • Title - including text, colors, location etc
  • Media - including changing and cropping the media file
  • Interaction - enabling an interactive survey or a click URL

The customization area will automatically allow you to make adjustments to the last Story Item. If you want to edit any other element, you can do so by clicking on the small edit icon on the Story Item card.


Once you picked the Item you want to edit, you can customize any one of the elements by clicking on the the appropriate area in the Story visualization on the left side of the screen :




Title Customization

Clicking on the title will allow you to customize the following elements:

  • Headline - allows you to edit the title that was automatically ingested to the item. Note - The title can’t be longer than 58 characters.
  • Headline location - Top, Middle or Bottom of the unit  
  • Background Color - color of the title background - can be picked or manually entered
  • Text Color - the color of the text on the background
Media Customization

Clicking on the media will allow you to change/customize the following elements:

  • Change Media - you can chose a video from the video library or upload an image or a video manually.
  • Edit Media - will allow you to crop/zoom the image/video and also trim the video.

Interaction Customization

Clicking on the title will allow you to customize the following elements:

  • Link - this is the URL for the article page. It can be turned on or off.  
  • Survey - you can add a survey to the Story Item by using the toggle. Turning on the survey will disable the click URL (and vise versa)  as only one element can appear at any given moment. 

Style 1 -   this is the simple emoji style survey.  Once the user clicks on the emoji an interaction will happen on the screen and the survey results will be provided.



Style 2 - this style requires you to provide two answers for the user to choose from. Each answer can’t exceed 63 characters and a single word can’t exceed 12 characters.




Step 3 - Assigning the Story to a playlist

The next step in the process is to assign the story to a playlist. There are two ways to assign a story to a playlist:

  • Through the Story management page
  • Through the playlist add/edit page

Assigning a Story - Story page

In the Story management page you can assign a Story to a playlist using the action buttons and clicking on the assign button.

A light-box will open which will allow you to assign the Story to a new playlist or an existing story type playlist (see below)

Assigning a Story - Playlist page

In the Playlist management page you can create a new playlist using the “Add" button.

A light-box will open that will allow you to define the playlist name and type. You should set this “Playlist Type” to Story and click apply. Note - Once set, Playlist Type can’t be changed.  
You will then be able to add Stories to the playlist by clicking the “Add More” button, picking a story from the lightbox and clicking the “Add” button.
Step 4 - Assigning the Playlist to a Placement

The next step in the process is to assign the playlist to a placement. There are two ways to assign a story to a playlist:

  • Through the playlist management page
  • Through the placement add/edit page

Assigning a Playlist - Playlist page

In the Playlist management page you can assign a Playlist to a Placement using the action buttons and clicking on the assign button. You can then select the placement from the dropdown and click the apply button

On the placement add/edit page you can create a new placement or edit an existing placement. Within the Player Control section of the page you will notice a toggle called “Enable Stories”. Clicking this will allow you to pick a story playlist from the drop down. Note - stories will only serve on mobile devices. Other devices will serve our normal player with the playlist defined in the Player Playlist dropdown.


 

5. Marketplace

The Marketplace is where you will find all the videos provided by Connatix. When you log into your account for the first time, the Marketplace will be empty as all videos will already be added to the “My Videos” section of your account to use for free.

If/when you upload your own videos and no longer want certain Connatix videos, you can go into the “My Videos” page and delete multiple or individual videos. Once you do this, the deleted video(s) will then appear in the Marketplace and you can retrieve it anytime you like.

In order to retrieve videos from the Marketplace, you must either select all the videos you want to put back in your video library and click on the “Add selected to My Videos” button on the top right corner, or you can click on the “Add to My Videos” when you hover over specific video:
